Business tycoon Ahmed bin Sulayem has revealed he lost 20kg in just four months -- by ditching solid food and drinking only juice.

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), boss has just ended a gruelling four-month diet. The 36-year-old dropped 20kg by drinking juices made from fruit and vegetables.

"I was almost 100 kilos when I started, and I'm around 80kg now," Sulayem told 7DAYS.

"I knew that I would lose weight, but I didn't know how much. All I know is that it couldn't be worse than where I was, whether it was being inactive and overeating.

"I also liked the idea of detoxing my body and giving my digestive system a rest."

With a busy career as executive director of the trade body, Sulayem had juices and shakes delivered by Essentially, a local firm.

His favourite was Green Juice, made from cucumber, celery, apple, lemon parsley and ginger and their Beetroot Drink, which includes beetroot, carrot and apple.

"The decision to make my juice diet public was not to show off, but to corner myself. As I publicly made the commitment, I had to see it through," he explained.

Sulayem said the shift was not easy and he said he had headaches, a pain in his face and nerve tingling.

"They only lasted for a few days, but it was so painful that you never forget them."

But he added: "There's an assumption that you would feel very weak and tired on a juice diet, but I didn't feel that.

"The detox got rid of any lethargic feeling in my body, got rid of the toxins in my system, and I had so much energy," Sulayem had some advice for anyone looking to follow his footsteps.

He said: "It doesn't have to be months, it can be two days or two weeks -- everyone's experience will be different," he said.

He now plans to follow the Caveman Diet, which puts an emphasis on natural foods in small portions and avoiding diary and refined sugars.
