Dubai Customs' smart refund system a hit.

As many as 690,000 applications of refund lodged through the system during the first eight months of the current year.

With 95 per cent of customs clearance transactions processed within the specified time frame, the Dubai Customs is continuing to develop user-friendly smart services, the latest being a smart refund system.

The system regulates refund procedures of all cash and bank guarantees, including the goods imported under a duty-suspended case.

"The smart refund service was well received by customers, with 690,000 applications of refund lodged through the system during the first eight months of the current year. Customers provide detailed information in their claims to ensure validation and refund settlement," said Younis Mohammed Othman, Director of Information Technology department.

He said the Dubai Customs has upgraded its clearance services by enabling customers to fill out customs declarations using their mobile phones.

"The customs clearance service is one of the most popular services among customers, with 4.4 million transactions processed across all customs centres from January to August this year.

"The Dubai Customs is committed to providing world-class clearance procedures, which ensures that customers have an exceptional experience as directed by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai," he said.

The customs saved customers' time and efforts by alleviating the need to fill out the shipping details as this information can be obtained automatically through the 11 network points between the Dubai Customs and its handling agencies, he noted.

Othman stated that the Dubai Customs has introduced a new facility for issuance of Vehicle Clearance Certificate (VCC) in Mirsal-2 on smart devices, as part of the Declaration Processing Project Release 4 Project.

"The VCC request facility is one of the major initiatives of the Dubai Customs meant to ensure that certificates are issued against valid declarations in Mirsal-2 system. The volume of VCC transactions amounted to 504,000 between January and August this year."

Othman explained that the service features 24/7 online VCC request facility through Dubai Trade portal, bureau submission facility at customs locations, or through smart services on mobile devices.

"It also allows customers to electronically track the status of their VCC requests, pay service fees online, do an automated upfront validation of previous VCC and declarations, and receive the VCC in person in case the declaration is modified or cancelled after the VCC is issued," he said, noting that the service informs customers through automated emails on the status of their VCC requests.
