Drydocks World, the shipbuilding arm of Dubai World, has discussed the location and size of its revolutionary Water Discus Hotel project with a high-level delegation from the Martinique Islands in the Caribbean Sea.

The two sides exchanged views on the various aspects of project, featuring a discus-shaped residential underwater building connected to another discus above water. The project concept is designed based on elevated offshore oil platforms and the submersible installations.

"The potential required size of the project... will be designed based on the client interest. The project should accommodate from 90 to 100 super deluxe rooms and suites, conference and concert hall," according to the preliminary draft.

The ideal location for placing the project in the Martinique Islands was also discussed during a meeting with Martinique Islands delegation led by Karine Roy Camille, chairman of Maison de Martinique, Tourism and Economic of the Martinique Islands, of the Caribbean Sea.

The delegation, which included Philip Eadie, chief executive of Development and Studies in Caribbean, or CED, and Group Project Engineering Management and Infrastructure, visited Drydocks World, a day after the announcement of its MoU with Big Invest Consult for constructing the revolutionary Water Discus Hotel at the Annual Investment Conference 2012.

Khamis Juma Buamim, chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World, received the Martinique Islands delegation. Vice-president for business development, strategies and administration Ali bin Towaih and business relations manager Ahmed Amin were also present on the occasion.

Roy-Camille said that she was amazed with what she saw in Dubai and the greatness of the creativity and technical developments. She affirmed interest of the Martinique Islands to be a part this fantastic and outstanding project by sending the initial letter of intent. Big Invest Consult will study and work on the technical plan of the project.

CED had a turnover of e1/43.9 million in 2010 and is actively involved in construction, property management and project management in the Caribbean. The visiting delegation was given an overview of the maritime capabilities of Dubai and the commitment to develop trade and international cooperation, which is part of the government vision.

The delegation was given a full presentation and detailed overview of the new marine project concept -- a "Dream City" and the effect on the environment, the international acknowledgement of its effectiveness in reducing soil erosion and rehabilitation of coastal systems to marine life. Drydocks and Maritime World are appointed the exclusive main contractor for the construction of the new concept hotels and cities floating in the Middle East. The firm said two developments with five hotels attached to them are planned in the Middle East. The Swiss firm is eyeing the coast of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
