Drop Dow plea; SPORT SHORTS OLYMPICS.

THE head of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is to officially ask for London 2012 to drop Dow Chemical as a sponsor - but he has stopped short of calling for a Games boycott.

The IOA are to meet today to discuss the issue - Dow own Union Carbide, the company at the centre of the Bhopal gas disaster in 1984 which killed thousands.

IOA acting president VK Malhotra said the sponsorship by Dow was "unacceptable".

Malhotra said: "Olympics are about love, brotherhood and transparency and this company (Dow) is linked with another which was responsible for killing thousands of Indian people.

"It is unacceptable such a company is a sponsor at the Olympics."
