Driver serious after collision.

A VAN driver is in a serious condition in hospital after his vehicle collided with a car.

The crash took place on the outskirts of Stanley, County Durham, yesterday, and involved a Citroen Berlingo van and a Nissan Juke. The two vehicles collided at around 8.10am at the crossroads in Tantobie.

The van was travelling south west with the car heading in the opposite direction, when at the crossroads the two vehicles collided, resulting in the van overturning.

The driver, a 50-year-old man from West Denton, Newcastle, suffered serious pelvic and head injuries and has been detained in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary. The female driver of the Nissan, a 43-year-old woman from Tanfield Lea suffered cuts and whiplash but was treated at the scene.
