Driver jailed two years for forcing girlfriend abort 2-month foetus.
The Dubai Court of first Instance convicted the 44-year-old Bangladeshi driver, M.A., of having consensual sex with his 30-year-old compatriot, L.S., then forcing her at knifepoint to swallow medical pills to abort her two-month-old foetus.
Pronouncing Monday's judgment, Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad also jailed L.S. for six months for having consensual sex with M.A.
"The two accused will be deported following the completion of their jail terms," said the judge..
L.S. pleaded not guilty and denied having consensual sex. She alleged that M.A. had sex with her against her will.
Meanwhile, M.A. countered her claims and contended: "We had consensual sexEoACA* I did not force her to abort the foetus or brandish a knife in her face."
The driver was charged with threatening to kill L.S. if she did not abort her foetus. He was also accused of beating his girlfriend.
L.S. claimed that she asked M.A. to marry her shortly after he impregnated her.
"I asked M.A. to get me from the pharmacy a pregnancy test kit. When I tested positive, he got outraged. He refused my suggestion that we get married. Initially, I refused to abort the foetus and tried to talk him into marrying meEoACA* he got me 10 gold-yellowish pills. I refused to swallow the pills and get rid of the foetus.
"M.A. grabbed a mopping stick and beat meEoACA* although he brutally beat me, but I refused to take the pills. He brandished a knife in my face and threatened to kill me. He coerced me to swallow six pills and shoved two pills in my uterus at knifepoint. Around 10pm, I bled severelyEoACA* then at 5am the next day he tried to force me to take the last two pills. Instead, I rushed to the nearest police station," L.S. claimed to prosecutors.
An Emirati policeman said L.S. claimed that M.A. threw her out of his house when she got pregnant following a three-month sex affair. The policeman cited her admitting that M.A. forced her to abort the foetus.
Following his arrest, the driver accused L.S. of having another affair with a Pakistani man who got her pregnant. Monday's judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
