Driver hurt as gunman hijacks his delivery van.

A DELIVERY driver was taken to hospital yesterday after a man armed with a handgun hijacked his vehicle.

The victim was driving along Belfast Road in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, at 10.15am when the raider got into the white Mercedes Sprinter van.

He threatened the driver and ordered him to drive to Glencairn Road in North Belfast.

On arrival the contents of the delivery vehicle were transferred to a waiting white Transit van which left the scene. The driver was then attacked. He was later taken to hospital for treatment. The van was discovered on fire and completely destroyed.

"The driver was assaulted and has been taken to hospital for treatment. The Sprinter van was set alight and has been totally destroyed."

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incidents to contact detectives in Larne on 101.
