Driven to distraction; You Say

I MUST admit I was a little apprehensive about the new driving penalties, but it seems that there were some new rules I hadn''t spotted on the list that drivers have taken on with real gusto.

The time was when drivers would pull into a lay-by for a mean-spirited argument with their husband or wife over their inability to read a map. Not any more. Now the most fashionable spot is in a box junction or a mini-roundabout.

Another use for junctions is a convenient place to stop and read your map. This is all in the new rules.

For all those proud parents out there, there's also a special section in the all-new spiced-up edition on driving with children. The trick to this is to spend as much time as possible with your neck craned around, shouting and red-faced, swerving out of control while the little darlings smear jam into the upholstery and pull faces at passing drivers.

So happy motoring, Merseysiders.

Let''s hope they add some more new rules soon.
