Drive against showrooms in G-8 Markaz.

ISLAMABAD -- The district administration and capital police launched an anti-encroachment operation against showroom owners in G-8 late Monday night.

The operation is being conducted as part of security measures adopted around Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) where former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was shifted.

Nawaz Sharif was shifted to the hospital on Sunday from Adiala jail after he complained of chest pain.

A team of doctors from Pims examined Nawaz Sharif and advised that he be shifted to the coronary care unit (CCU) at Pims.

The district administration officials and capital police reached G-8 and asked the showroom owners to remove the vehicles parked on the footpaths and roads adjacent to Pims.

The showroom owners objected the move following which a large number of traders blocked the road and staged a protest.

The district administration officials warned them of arrest if they failed to comply with the directives.

Till the filing of this report, talks between the traders and the officials were underway.

The CDA had recently issued notices to all encroachers in the city, including G-8 Markaz.

An anti-encroachment operation was conducted in G-8 a few weeks back but the encroachers returned to their previous spots.
