Drink drive shame 2 Mum wants jail for Darren's killer.

Byline: By RAYMOND HAINEY

THE grieving family of a dad-to-be killed in a drinkdrive crash have demanded a long jail term for his killer.

Daniel Armstrong, 35, is due to be sentenced next month for the smash which killed friend Darren Byers, 23, two weeks before his daughter was born.

Darren's brother Craig, 19, was left fighting for his life.

Emma Greening, 20, mum to Darren's baby Olivia, said: "Daniel should certainly go to jail. He should have a long time to think about what he's done. He took my baby's father from me and her."

Darren's dad Jim, 48, said: "If he hadn't chosen to get behind the wheel, my son would be alive today. He should certainly do jail time."

Darren, of Stevenston, Ayrshire, was a passenger in Armstrong's Citroen Saxo when it crashed into an oncoming car at an accident black spot on the A78 in Ardrossan. Craig suffered severe back and neck injuries.

Armstrong last week pleaded guilty to causing death by reckless driving and to driving with more than twice the legal alcohol limit in his blood.

Darren had just started work at the Hunterston B power station in West Kilbride after studying in Newcastle.

Armstrong was remanded in custody at the High Court in Glasgow until February 3.
