Drew sister's pills 'suicide' Barrymore family heartache.

Byline: CHRISTOPHER BUCKTIN US Editor

HOLLYWOOD movie star Drew Barrymore's half-sister has died of a suspected drugs overdose.

Jessica Barrymore, who would have been 48 today, was found by a neighbour slumped in her car, littered with white pills.

She had the same alcoholic father as her actress sister and, like Drew, had battled drugs and booze in her teens.

Jessica was found at 6am outside her California home on Tuesday in National City, north of San Diego.

Neighbour Marta Lopez was attempting to leave for work but was blocked in by the car, and walked over to find the former pet shop worker dead in the driver's seat.

Despite sharing dad John Drew Barrymore - a TV actor who died in 2004 aged 72 - the half-sisters were not close.

Drew, 39, who became world-famous at the age of seven in hit movie E.T. The Extra-terrestrial, said in a statement: "Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible and I'm so incredibly sorry for their loss."

The Barrymore girls, are part of a Hollywood dynasty stretching back to the 1930s and their grandfather, John Barrymore, a screen legend who also battled alcoholism. Hints of Jessica's troubled mind appeared on the web the day before her death.

In a cryptic last message on Facebook on July 28, she shared a post that said: "Life doesn't always introduce you to the people you want to meet."
