The 6-foot-4 Smiley capped an incredible athletic career for St.
John's by helping the Pioneers to a 19-2 record and a spot in the
Central/West Division 2 semifinals. Smiley is a two-time Telegram &
Gazette Super Teamer in lacrosse and football and is this year's
Hometeam boys' lacrosse Player of the Year after scoring 37 goals
and 35 assists for St. John's. Smiley was selected an All-American
and Central Mass. Conference all-star this year and was picked for the
BostonLax all-star game. Smiley helped the Pioneers to many big wins
this season, including a win over perennial power Acton-Boxboro that he
counts as one of his most memorable moments. Smiley also enjoyed St.
John's Central Mass. title win in lacrosse last year and the
Pioneers' Central Mass. title in football last fall. Smiley will
attend the U.S. Naval Academy in the fall to play lacrosse and become an
officer. He hopes to major in finance and go into the financial world or
become a stockbroker after graduation. Smiley comes from a family of
athletes, as his sister Allie starred for the Notre Dame Academy track
team and finished third in the 200 meters at the USATF New England
Junior Olympic Championship. His father Mark played football at Holy
Cross, and his mother Beth was a former T&G Super Teamer in field
hockey and also played at Holy Cross. His grandfather, Art Andreoli,
played basketball at Holy Cross. He is the son of Beth and Mark Smiley
of Shrewsbury.
