Draycote continues to deliver.

More large trout have been caught at still water fisheries this week, the best came at the massive 600 acre Draycote Water near Rugby. It weighed in at 11lbs 2oz for local angler David Smith, and it fell to a black buzzer pattern wet fly-fished at the reservoir inlet.

Leicester angler Mr A McDonald caught a 7lbs 2oz rainbow last weekend and this week Hereford angler John Betteridge fished from the boat at the Farborough Spit and caught an eight fish limit bag weighing 24lbs, his best brace each scaled in at 7lbs 8oz and fell to the GRHE wet fly.

Largest trout so far this week was a 9lbs 4oz rainbow for Mr G Reeves, and Coventry angler Eric Whale fished a buzzer pattern near the aerator and caught and returned a fine brown trout weighing in at 5lbs.

Last weekend at Draycote Water 572 anglers collectively caught 1,360 trout weighing 2,678lbs.

At Packington Fishery last week 170 anglers caught 350 trout, largest weighed 7lbs 8oz for Birmingham's Ron Hinks who fished a nymph at the Great Pool while at Cocks Close Pool another Birmingham angler Jim Green used tiny Hopper patterns to tempt a dozen catch/release rainbows.

At Blithefield Reservoir near Rugeley last week 265 anglers caught 850 trout between them, the best of which was a 4lbs 12oz brown trout for Don Lowbridge of Brewood, a caught and returned fish. The largest rainbow scaled in at 4lbs 12oz for Stoke on Trent angler Peter Wright.

Some excellent match catches were made during the week. Last Wednesday at Woodland View Fishery near Ombersley, Worcs. Dorking match angler Will Raison won the open match with a massive catch of carp weighing 121lbs 13oz, and Will is now in the England squad and for a place in the world championship.

More good match catches were made along the canal through Tipton centre. The Strike FT Open there saw locally based Ernie Thomas pole fish maggot over ground bait to tempt an all tench catch weighing 18lbs 9oz.

Close catches as well in Blythe Water Open near Knowle. Winner at Willow Pool peg 96 was Keith Vaughan (Rover) with a pole and caster caught 22lbs 1oz of small carp, at peg 98 Mark Dowding (Shakespeare) caught 21lbs 14oz of small tench taken up in the water, and third placed John Stratford (GYMG) put 21lbs of carp on to the scales.
