Drawing a veil over Labour ministers.
Dear Editor, The recent comments from Jack Straw about Muslim women wearing a veil and the appallingly ill-timed statement at the weekend by Communities Minister, Phil Woolas - to the effect that the female Muslim teacher who wears one should be sacked - make depressing reading.
One has to remind oneself (or reluctantly acknowledge) that they were made by members of a Labour Government.
If some nonentity from the BNP had made the comments they would have been attacked - probably by Straw and Woolas. The fact that they were made by Government ministers can only heighten the negative impact they will have on community relations at home and on Britain's image around the world.
What on Earth is Labour up to and why doesn't somebody get a grip?
