Dr. Utpal das conferred as IPHA fellow.
On the occasion of 14th World Congress on Public Health at Kolkata, Indian Public Health Association (IPHA) conferred the honour of Fellowship to Dr. Utpal Das for his outstanding contribution in the field of Veterinary Public Health. The citation was presented to Dr. Das by Prof. J. Ravi Kumar, President, IPHA on 14th February, 2015 at Science City Auditorium, Kolkata.
Dr. Das has been working as Superintendent Veterinary Officer, Health Department, Kolkata Municipal Corporation. He provided significant inputs for elucidation of carcarial dermatitis, balantidium dysentery, cystic hydatidosis, cow pox, Campylobacter enteritis, Cutaneous larva migrans, soil transmitted zoonotic helminths, pet assisted therapy on human beings, humane control of stray animal population and rabies control besides his pioneering contribution on chemotherapeutic regimen of canine transmissible venereal sarcoma and fundamental characterization of Veterinary public health. Dr. Das has authored more than 60 research and clinical papers/ reviews in journals. He is also the proud recipient of R. Swaminathan Iyer Memorial Award of Indian Veterinary Association (1995), Fellow of Association of Public Health Veterinarians (2006), Best paper presentation award of Indian Society for Advancement of Canine Practice (2009), Dr. Ram Raksha Kiran Shukla Gold Medal of Association of Public Health Veterinarians for best paper on zoonosis (2012). Dr. Utpal Das acted as East zonal secretary of Indian Society for Veterinary Surgery from 1993-2003 and played pivotal role in study of 'Benchmarking of small and large abattoirs in Kolkata', 'study on livestock market to improve meat sector in West Bengal' and 'socio-economic upliftment of meat workers in West Bengal'--NABCONS projects on behalf of National Meat and Poultry Processing Board, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, GOI.
