Dr. Nightingale Seeks Greener Pastures.
DR. NIGHTINGALE SEEKS GREENER PASTURES Lydia Adamson. 2000/2001. Read by Laura Hicks. 4 tapes. 3.5 hrs. Chivers Sound Lib., Chivers North America. 0-7927-2489-5. $39.95. Vinyl; plot, author, reader notes. SAFor those unfamiliar with the Dr. Nightingale series, Didi is a hard-working large animal vet who is struggling to make ends meet. When the cattle industry takes a downturn, she decides to try to increase her business by widening her sphere of expertise. She attends a vet conference in Atlantic City (and you thought the ALA annual conference was a hot time!) and bad things begin to happen. A famous vet dies and she helps solve the twisted case. There are more turns in this plot than intestines in a cow's stomach, so listeners will be engaged in trying to solve this before Didi.
Hicks does a terrific job supplying the narration and character voices. Her voice is brash, gutsy and slightly in-your-face. She is a perfect match for this book. Although there are some nasty deaths, listeners looking for a fun escape will be caught up in it.
