Dr. Franklin's Island.
When teenagers take off on an environmental studies summer, all but three are killed when their plane crashes. Two girls. Miranda and Semi, and one boy, Arnie, survive when they land on an apparently deserted tropical island. When the boy disappears, the girls continue their exploration of the island alone and stumble upon the hospital of Dr. Franklin, an insane genetic engineer who sees them as the perfect specimens for his next experiment, combining the DNA of humans and animals, producing creatures never seen before. How the two girls survive by using their wits and discover the value of friendship as they experience things that have never happened to humans before will push the limits of the imagination of listeners.
Fox has the young voice of an upper class British schoolgirl, with dramatic inflections that young listeners will love. (Editor's Note: see also the review of the paperback in this issue of KLIATT.) Nola Theiss, Sanibel, FL
