Dr. David M. Smith, 60.

AUBURN / PHILADELPHIA, PA David Matthew Smith, 60, died on June 16, 2011 at The University of Pennsylvania Hospital after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Dave graduated in 1969 from Auburn High School where he was captain of the basketball, cross country and track teams, and student council president. David had a Doctorate in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master's Degree in Education Media from Temple University and a Bachelor's in Psychology from Harvard University. He touched many lives in a wide array of nations and cultures. He loved life's challenges, including climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, hiking the Himalayas, and running in numerous marathons. In the last six months, he continued to inspire those around him with his grace and courage while adjusting to paralysis in the midst of fighting cancer.

In addition to his wife, children and grandchild, Dave leaves his mother and father, Matthew and Adele Smith of Charlton (formally of Auburn); Daniel Smith and his wife Nancy of Auburn, Carolyn Smith of Little Hocking, Ohio; Melinda Hannan and her husband Kenneth of Charlton; Susan Smith-Scott and her husband Gene of Charlton; Judith Maruca and her husband Francis of Charlton; Stephen Smith and his wife Barbra of New Milford, Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews.
