Dow extends winning streak on hopes for U.S. economy.

NEW YORK, March 12 Kyodo

The Dow index rose Monday, extending its winning streak to the fourth trading day on hopes of a U.S. economic recovery.

The 30-issue Dow Jones Industrial Average added 37.69 points, or 0.29 percent, to end at 12,959.71. In contrast, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index shed 4.68 points, or 0.16 percent, to 2,983.66.

The Dow gradually advanced on buying of domestic demand-related shares amid expectations for a further improvement in the U.S. economy, market analysts said.

Its gains, however, were limited on concerns over a possible slowdown in the Chinese economy, the analysts said.

A wait-and-see mood dominated the market ahead of Tuesday's meeting of the U.S. Federal Reserve's policy-setting Federal Open Market Committee, they added.
