India, Nov. 21 -- Reliance Infrastructure, a unit of Reliance Group and an infrastructure company, has commissioned 400 kV Double Circuit Transmission line, between Ranchodpura (Vadavi) and Zerda (Kansari) in Gujarat.
The transmission line, 140 Kms long, is part of the Western Regional System Strengthening (WRSS) project that will connect key business centers of Gujarat - like Disa, Patan and Kadi, and will boost the economic growth of the region.
Out of three, two transmission lines had now been commissioned in Gujarat. Third transmission line between Raigarh and Karamsad will be commissioned soon.
Commenting on the development, Lalit Jalan, Chief Executive Officer & Director, Reliance Infrastructure said, "We are proud to announce the commissioning of fifth transmission line. Out of nine, five transmission lines have been successfully commissioned. We are committed to complete the project by FY12 and facilitate the power flow from eastern region to the western region of the country. "
He further commented that, "On-time commissioning of transmission lines have been possible because of RInfra's technological strength and pool of skilled manpower, having inherent strengths in executing larger projects. We are endeavoring to create world class infrastructure for power sector in India that will further boost economic growth."
The project would facilitate free flow of 4,000 MW from power rich Eastern Region to the power starved Western Region of the country and would benefit all constituent utilities in the Western Region. This would also immediately aid in relieving grid congestion presently being experienced in the entire Western Region.
WRSS is India's first ever 100 per cent privately owned transmission project on Build, Own, Operate and Maintain (BOOM) basis having 1500Kms length, and executed at a cost of about Rs 1,400 crore. The project was awarded to Reliance Infrastructure through tariff based International competitive bidding process.
