Dott gets past first Page in a real dash; UPDATE.

GRAEME DOTT needed just an hour to get his BetVictor Welsh Open title challenge off to a winning start.

The former world champ whitewashed England's Lee Page 4-0 in their first-round tie at the Newport Centre.

The Scot said: "I played very well, I didn't do much wrong. It's just important to win your first-round match and get through to the television stage.

"I'm feeling good about my game but it's still very early days. Hopefully I can have a good run."

Compatriot Ross Muir led Englishman Peter Lines but slipped to an agonising 4-3 defeat at this year's PS300,000 ranking tournament. BASKETBALL: Glasgow Rocks drew first blood in their double header with Manchester Giants.

Fran Urli hit 20 points as the struggling Rocks boosted their play-off hopes by holding off a late fightback from the Giants to win 85-80 at the Emirates Arena. ICE HOCKEY: Braehead Clan aim to snap a three-game losing sequence with a home victory over Sheffield Steelers tonight.

The Scots side sit third in the 10-strong Elite League with Sheffield just one place above them.

And Clan defenceman Scott Aarssen said: "Losing three in a row knocks you down. But the guys are keeping our heads held high and staying positive." TENNIS: Alize Cornet stunned Serena Williams to post the biggest win of her career and set up a final against Venus Williams at the Dubai Duty Free Championships.

Frenchwoman Cornet had lost all three previous meetings with the world No.1 but served out her 6-4 6-4 victory at the first time of asking.

HOCKEY: Dundee Wanderers drew 5-5 with Danish side Slagelse in the opening pool match of the European Indoor Club Championships in Lithuania.

Playmaker Vikki Bunce and captain Rachel Osborne scored twice with Heather Elder also on target.
