Doran's accolade - or curse?

Byline: DAVID PRENTICE Deputy Head of Sport

THE Manager of the Month jinx doesn't just extend to the Premier League.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce was adamant when he asked on Saturday night if he was in the running for the Manager of the Month prize for February.

"I hope not," he snapped following The Hammers' fourth straight win - and confirming the belief that winners of the award promptly lose.

Bootle boss Joe Doran was presented with his richly deserved Manager of the Month award for January, from Ian Williams of the North West Counties League on Saturday.

Then he looked on in horror as his side produced their worst peformance of the season and crashed out of the NW Counties League Cup to Abbey Hey.

"Performances like that are nowhere near good enough for this football club," he rapped.

"Today has been a really frustrating day."

Is the Manager of the Month award jinxed in non-League too?
