Thunder Bay's industrial community grew a little larger last month with the opening of Earnway Industries (Canada) Limited and Leo Sakata Electronics (Canada) Ltd. in the city's Belmoral IV Industrial Park. Earnway produces plastic items such as food containers and telephone casings, as well as control panel housings for Leo Sakata Electronics. The latter firm has been touted as the first integrated micro-electronics plant in Northern Ontario. About 126 positions - 100 at Leo Sakata Electronics - are expected to be created when the plants reach full production. The openings brought to a successful conclusion more than four years of negotiations between the Pacific Rim companies and officials of the Thunder Bay Economic Development Corporation.
