Doolan double and wonder wingers set Park on path to a comfortable victory.

BIRKENHEAD PK 52 VALE OF LUNE 14 BIRKENEHAD PARK started the New Year with a bang, scoring after only two minutes.

A clearance kick by winger Matt Walls set up the lineout and No 8 Dave Ibbotson scored the try, which was converted from wide out by Dave Hall.

Then on five minutes, flanker Rob Doolan claimed the second try following a driving maul, with Hall again converting.

Ten minutes later, Doolan had repeated the act, with Hall's conversion opening up a 21-0 lead.

And Park secured the bonus point within the first half hour when winger Walls gathered a kick ahead from stand-off Peter White to score a fine try. Hall's conversion rebounded off the post.

Then on 34 minutes the other winger, Dave Morgan, broke through the midlfield defence to score under the posts, with Hall adding the extras.

On the stroke of half-time, Ibbotson claimed his second try from a push-over scrum and Hall's conversion put Park 40-0 to the good at the break.

Vale put up a brave fight in the second half and scored a breakaway try through Jack Ayrton, converted by Charlie Lomas.

Park responded with a try by second row Jack Ashcroft, with Hall again converting.

Vale continued to fight hard and were rewarded with a second try by winger Olly Dobson, converted by Lomas.

But Park had the last say with a debut try by substitute winger Elliott Madgin to make it 52-14.
