Donations help improve quality of life for female labourers at...

Life at the Mussafah women's labour camp near Abu Dhabi has improved dramatically for more than 100 women who live there following the donation of three new washing machines.

Before the donation, the women used to spend their entire weekly day off queuing to use the camp's one working washing machine or, in some cases, resorting to washing their clothes by hand.

Now, with four working machines, the women are able to wash their clothes a lot faster, giving them time to enjoy their day off. The new machines were donated by home appliances brand Bosch.

"It's very nice, easy to use and gives us some time off to do what we want," says Theresa Culiman, one of the women at the camp. "We have 100 women in this camp and all of them have been able to use the machine easily, no problems. It means we have time, we can watch TV, relax and enjoy our day off, when we never could before."

Angel Wesley, who runs the Labor of Love charity that organised the donation, said: "These are hard-working women who come home in the evening with barely enough time to cook, so they didn't have a choice but to queue up on their day off. Now that burden is a lot lighter."

As well as saving the women's time, the machines will also help to reduce the consumption of water and energy at the camp thanks to their energy-efficient design.
