Byline: Matchman

ROOKIE match angler Donald McLean showed the old hands how to do it in the final of the 2008 Broom Series, picking up his first winner's cheque for pounds 1000.

Donald, from Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire, only took up the sport two years ago, but he left 19 rivals trailing in his wake with a late charge in the last two hours.

Broom director John Wright said: "Donald has been practising quite a lot, and that paid off. It proves you don't have to be a life-long angler to win big money."
