Donald V. (Don) Guertin, 83Charlton - Donald V. Guertin passed away on Sunday January 18th, 2015 alongside family.He was born in Southbridge, MA on February 14th, 1931, and was the son of Theodore D. and Helen V. (Nash) Guertin.Don leaves his wife Eleonore "Lore" L. (Stephan) Guertin, two daughters, Iris McGrath of Holyoke, Maria Curcio of Templeton and two sons, Donald Guertin of Charlton and Glen Guertin of Rochdale.He leaves his grandchildren, Chelsea McGrath of NYC, Ashley Stephens of Leicester and Derek Stephens of Leicester and two great-grandchildren, Shya and Stratton Stephens of Leicester.He leaves his siblings, Theodore "Ted" Guertin of Oxford, D. Geraldine "Gerry" Guertin and C. Patricia "Pat" O'Keefe, both of Worcester.Don was pre-deceased by his granddaughter Brittany McGrath in 2014.He was a proud veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1952 until 1958 in England and Germany as a cryptologist with the NSA (National Security Agency).Don was involved in the automobile business for many years and was the owner of Imported Cars of Worcester until his retirement in 1994.He was very instrumental in introducing European imported vehicles into the Worcester market in the early 1960's, being awarded the original Volvo and BMW franchises in this area and later adding the Mazda franchise.He was a lifelong automobile enthusiast and raced vintage cars in many races including annual events in Pittsburgh, PA and Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, CT. Don was a member of several automobile associations, including the BMW Car Club of America and the Vintage Sports Car Club of America.He was Treasurer of the Prindle Pond Lake Association in Charlton.Don and Lore enjoyed European travel for many years, including frequent trips to Lore's native country of Germany.Don was a lifelong fan of Soccer and of the Boston Celtics and NY Giants football.Private services will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his honor to the Disabled American Veterans, (DAV), PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-9927, (www.dav.org) or to the 2nd Chance Animal Shelter, 11 Young Road, East Brookfield, MA 01515.
