Don Bosco Defensive Driving School trains media.

Don Bosco Defensive Driving School, Ashaiman, has taken a section of the Tema media through defensive driving and road signs.

The one-day training workshop was aimed at educating the media on driving regulations, and better to have a understanding of road traffic regulations to, in turn, help in reducing road accidents.

This was the first time the Don Bosco Defensive Driving School, which also has a technical and vocational training center for less-privileged students, has partnered the media to reach out to motorists and commuters on the need to adhere to road safety regulations to save human lives.

Charles Okafo, Don Bosco Driving School Administrator, said our roads could be free from accidents should motorists rest more and adhere to the simple road traffic regulations.

Besides, he said, pedestrians and passengers have their parts to play to prevent the numerous road accidents.

'Constantly, the NRSC and other civil society organisations educate motorists on the need to drive safely, but our motorists and passengers have continued to be indisciplined on our roads. Driving is patience and carefulness, and these are two defensive elements one needs, after all the experience one claims to have in driving.

'And so, at Don Bosco Defensive Driving School, we imbibe these in our trainees. The best and experienced driver is the one who is careful and patient on the road, and leaves and arrives home safely,' Charles Okafo said.

Don Bosco Defensive Driving School has scheduled an outreach programme to reach out to over 3,000 motorists to drum home the need for them be extra-cautious behind the steering wheel, 'and our first target is to get the media understand what we do here, give them the training and education, so that they, too, can be road safety ambassadors.'

The school has modern equipment for practical classroom driving lessons, and latest vehicles to train trainees on the roads, and seeing and feeling all those pieces of equipment, the media was grateful to Don Bosco Defensive Driving School for the opportunity, and promised to intensify their war against irresponsible driving and misconduct by pedestrians and passengers.
