Don't stop there with final day changes.

NEXT year's Challenge Cup final will take place on Saturday, July 18.

Without getting into the mundane details, the change of date is down to availability of Wembley Stadium.

I have to say, I rather like where next year's final sits in the calendar. Amongst other things, it creates a nice space between the Cup final and the Super League grand final.

It would be great if we had an early season competition as well with a final in, say, early May. That would create a season with three finals spread at roughly thirds throughout the campaign; a nice balance. There was no mention in the RFL press release of the 1895 Cup final in 2020. I hope they continue with the competition but at the risk of stating the obvious, it has to be a the curtain raiser to the Challenge Cup final rather than played afterwards.
