Don't fail our kids.. turn our education system into a class act.
Byline: Lesley Roberts
It's been an emotional week for those of us who've watched offspring finish up at primary school.
Suffice to say, my tears were not caused by hayfever as my boy joined his classmates at a special farewell assembly.
"One day we'll wish we could come back to these days, these days," they sang.
Every parent in the church dabbed their eyes with hankies. The chubby-faced five-year-olds who started P1 are now gangly pre-teens, too old to hold mum's hand, too young for acne.
Come August, they'll be at the mercy of the secondary education system.
These are the kids who will find out if ditching school reform legislation really is, as Education Minister John Swinney insists, a means to "fast-track" much-needed change. They shouldn't have to wait for better days. Nor should they suffer through political point-scoring.
To all involved in delivering education: Don't fail them.
