Dolan Media acquires print, electronic Arizona news service.
Arizona News Service was established in 1906 by Ned Creighton's grandfather to publish a legislative newsletter. The acquired company currently produces: Legislation Online Arizona, an electronic legislative news service that follows daily floor action, new bills, and committee agendas and actions; "Arizona Capitol Times," a weekly newspaper; the daily "Arizona Legislative Report," published during legislative sessions; "Yellow Sheet Report," a newsletter published three times a week during interim periods between legislative sessions to cover Attorney General rulings, state agency hearings on rules and regulations and political news; "The Green Book," an annual guide to the Arizona Legislature; and, various magazine-format publications on the workings of state government. ANS has 24 employees, all of whom will be retained.
Dolan Media president James Dolan said "if (Arizona) state government has a bible, this is it. We are proud to be associated with it and we pledge to continue its tradition of speed, accuracy, fairness and insight." He said that Dolan Media will invest additional resources to continue ANS's growth.
In January of this year, Dolan acquired Counsel Press (New York), the nation's largest provider of appellate services to the legal profession. Other Dolan properties include Finance & Commerce, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN), Lawyers Weekly, Inc. (Boston, MA), New Orleans Publishing Group (New Orleans, LA), Legal Communications Corp. (St. Louis, MO) and The Daily Record Co. (Baltimore, MD), among others.
