Doing our bit to keep city clean.

I APPLAUD Darren Thwaites, the editor-in-chief of The Chronicle, for spearheading a move with Newcastle City Council to have a Do Your Bit campaign aimed at cleaning up the city before the Rugby World Cup.

This is a showcase event where thousands of visitors will come to the city with an estimated spend of PS43m. Apart from the aim to get rid of any litter or rubbish, there is also to be hanging baskets to enhance the streets and shops.

I hope that after the dust settles, there will be a greater awareness to maintain cleanliness throughout the city.
