Documentary on Czech Revolution Celebrates "The Power of the Powerless".

Warren, NJ, May 01, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Velvet Revolution of 1989 is a unique episode in Soviet history. In this “gentle” revolution, dissidents led public demonstrations against the Communist rule of Czechoslovakia. This civil disobedience resulted in an entirely non-violent transfer of power, and the election of Vaclav Havel as president of the newly democratic Czechoslovakia.

This unique story forms the basis of “The Power and the Powerless,” a feature length documentary to be distributed through Passion River Films.

Directed by Cory Taylor (“JFK: A President Betrayed,” also available from Passion River), “The Power of the Powerless” explores the legacy of Communist rule over Czechoslovakia. Tracing the experiences of the country from the totalitarian Stalinist government to the revolution and the present day, the film creates a portrait of a Czech Republic still struggling with its own history.

The film features narration by Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons, and features never-before-seen interview footage of Vaclav Havel.

“The Power of the Powerless” has already been broadcast in 40 countries and featured in 20 international film festivals.

“The Power of the Powerless” will be available to book for non-theatrical screenings through Passion River Films. Starting April 29, universities and organizations will be able to order the film, with public performance rights, through the website edu.passionriver.com.
