Doctor Doom...?

This refers to 'Island fever' by Dr Amin Al Araby (GDN, February 15).

I am not sure if the title 'Dr' came about as a result of studying medicine or philosophy because either vocation couldn't result in a person incapable of appreciating W.W.'s balanced views.

I have ruled out the ancient noun of Dr as a ship's cook.

When I read his tirade against expat Brits in general and W.W. in particular, I can only assume the Dr supports indefensible causes like the dismissed worker (part-time paid arsonists), inciting hate, or endorsing Denis MacShane's uninformed views.

Perhaps he erupted before reading W.W.'s comment - developers need lessons, but there again the Dr may have been in favour of destroying investor confidence and take pleasure in Brit expats getting ripped off. You can never tell.

When I first visited Bahrain in 1978, I never imagined the changes that would occur over three decades later, both to the skyline and the ever-growing lack of tolerance evident today.

The frustration within all nationalities comes about now because of changes for the better, dependent on who you are and where you fit in society, it moves far too slowly for many. In recent years much lip service has been paid to abolishing corruption, but it still remains virtually unchecked in some quarters (wasta).

Do calm down Dr, island fever is not just restricted to expats; you have evidently been taking the wrong medicine, so change it to a daily mouthful of tolerance and get regular checks for hypertension.
