Do you know what's in it for you?

Many times when we look to our members to be volunteers for projects, chapters, special interest groups, and other activities, we ask ourselves, "What's in it for our members?" When developing programs, the question serves as the starting point for building a large pool of volunteers and ensuring that they have a fulfilling and satisfying relationship with ONS.

When the time comes to renew your membership, and you think of ONS, I am certain you ask, "What's in it for me?" A great place to start is with the menu of membership benefits.

As an ONS member, you know that ONS offers a variety of membership benefits aimed at helping members fulfill the ONS mission of promoting excellence in oncology nursing and quality cancer care. As part of these benefits, ONS also provides member affinity programs. The programs assist ONS in generating revenue to help support ONS projects, programs, and services. By buying these routine services through ONS, you create a win-win situation for yourself and the Society.

Through the affinity programs, ONS members can take advantage of savings on products and services available from leading vendors, including discounts or group rates for

* ONS wireless phone service

* ONS credit card and loan programs

* Computer hardware and software discount programs

* Personal insurance such as automobile, home, long-term care, and professional liability.

ONS Mobile: The First Wireless Network Dedicated to You

We are proud to announce our newest program, ONS Mobile (www.onsmobile.com), the first wireless network dedicated to the members of ONS. The service provides ONS members with a direct connection to ONS-keeping you up to date with all of the issues that we care about as oncology nurses. Members also have the ability to create an online community to share photos, blogs, and messages.

Why Use the Programs?

Some of the affinity programs can save you money, but they also help to support ONS projects, programs, and services. Each partner provides a royalty to ONS based on member participation. What better way to support ONS while receiving a great service in return?

ONS is only as strong as the members who belong, and we can only continue to be a premier society for oncology nurses with your participation. I encourage you to take full advantage of your membership with ONS. Remember, the next time you ask yourself, "What's in it for me?" know that you have the ability to support ONS and receive great benefits that enhance your professional growth.

To learn more about ONS member benefits and the affinity programs, I encourage you to visit www.ons.org/membership. If you have input you would like to share regarding currents benefits, the affinity programs, or even future benefits, ONS would love to hear from you! Please send an e-mail to membership@ons.org.
