Byline: ADELINA CAMPOS

OPERATION Transformation yesterday called on the next generation of weight loss leaders to step up to the plate.

TV host Kathryn Thomas and radio presenter John Murray launched the show's eighth season asking for people to send in their applications over the coming month.

The hit RTE show is due back on our screens in January, with five ordinary Irish people helping the nation get back into shape.

Kathryn revealed: "I love this time of the year, it's always exciting when you're going in and reading the applications.

"We've already had 300 applications come in to VIP [magazine], that's unheard of, before we've even done the launch."

The athletic broadcaster was speaking at the RTE studios yesterday where she was joined by four of last season's leaders as they made afor new contestants.
