Diversity award for college.

KIRKLEES College has received an award for promoting equality and diversity.

Investors in Diversity Level Two accreditation has been given for the college's effective approach to managing equality, diversity and inclusion.

The college has been aiming for level 2 status since it achieved Level 1 a year ago.

An assessor from the National Centre for Diversity attended the college last November 2011 to interview staff, students, governors and external stakeholders and to look at evidence provided by the college.

College principal, Peter McCann said: "This achievement is a real testament to the hard work of all staff at the college and shows how we value and encourage diversity among colleagues, students and external contacts.

"We are the heart of the Kirklees community which has a rich mix of people and it is vitally important that we practice and actively promote inclusion and fairness.

"I think this quality mark helps us focus our attention on this important issue and puts it at the forefront of everyone's mind."
