Diver on bar trouble rap.

A NAVY steward suffered a face wound after trouble flared as crewmen watched a crunch Scotland v England Euro 2000 match at a bar in Turkey, a court martial heard yesterday.

Mark Trent got a cut cheek after being hit by debris from a glass allegedly thrown by a Navy diver from a different ship.

It was claimed Anthony McKay, 31, from Glasgow, was seen throwing the pint pot glass which shattered when it hit a pillar in the bar in the Turkish city.

McKay, who serves aboard the minesweeper HMS Walney, denies causing actual bodily harm to Trent, who serves aboard the survey ship HMS Herald.

When quizzed, McKay denied throwing the glass.

He alleged he had slipped on some spilled beer in the busy bar and knocked several empty glasses off a shelf. He said he did not realise anyone had been hurt.

The case in Plymouth, Devon, continues.
