ST HELENS: A new pounds 3.6m training centre for teenagers opens on October 9.

The Collaborative Skills Centre at St Helens College's Pocket Nook technology campus will offer 14 to 19-year-olds courses in construction, hairdressing, beauty, health and social care, engineering, motor vehicles and ICT.

ST HELENS: Two men appeared in court after selling goods at the Chalon Way Car Boot Sale.

Colin Melish, 62, of Rochdale, pleaded guilty to offences involving offering to supply unclassified pornographic DVDs last July. He was given a three month community order with a curfew.

In a separate case Dennis Twist, 33, of Argyle Street, St.Helens, pleaded guilty to offering for sale counterfeit and incorrectly labelled DVDs. He was fined pounds 250.

ST HELENS: St Helens is flying the flag in nine of its parks after winning nine national Green Flag awards.

Existing Green Flags at Bankes Park at Billinge, Clinkham Wood Local Nature Reserve, Siding Lane Local Nature Reserve at Rainford, Mesnes Park, Taylor Park, The Duckeries at Parr and Downall Croft Doorstep Green at North Ashton have been retained and a further two gained - Nanny Goat Park and Gaskell Park, both in Parr.
