Diseases of eye retina can result in complete blindness.
Islamabad -- Well-known ophthalmologists said that diseases of eye retina could consequence in complete blindness. Diabetic patients were more prone to developing retinal diseases and needed to have regular eye checkups even if their eye sight was not weak.
Ophthalmologists were addressing the Retinal Diseases Symposium organized by Shifa International Hospital. Consultant Ophthalmologist Shifa International Hospital Professor Farooq Afzal chaired the meeting that had been attended by leading ophthalmologists, Retina specialists and Medical students.
Consultant Ophthalmologist and Retina Specialist Shifa International Hospital Dr Amer Awan, and Dr Rehman Siddiqui, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Retina Specialist, Shahzad Eye Hospital Karachi talked about management of age related retinal diseases and diabetic retinal problems.
Dr. Amer Awan advised masses particularly diabetic people to should consult their eye surgeon at least twice a year to prevent retinal diseases. He said that eye floaters, flashes, eye pain and weakness were some of the symptoms of retina diseases.
At present, excellent treatment options were available in variety of retinal diseases with Balanced diet and good diabetic control would be preventing these retinal diseases.
