Disarray.

SIR - If further proof was required to show that the Welsh nationalists (aka Plaid Cymru) are in complete disarray one need look no further than the confused attempt by Ian Titherington (Letters, January 15) to dismiss defections from their ranks. I am still trying to decode his last paragraph.

The truth of the matter is that their continuing prevarication on the language issue; their duplicity on the independence/full national status issue and their confusion over the European issue has brought them to the brink of political meltdown.

Their problems are exacerbated, of course, by an almost complete lack of leadership. Whenever faced with a controversial situation or a difficult decision, their leader ducks below the parapet. Confidence in him must now be at an all-time low which is why, one assumes, they did not field him for last Thursday's Question Time on BBC1.
