Disabled JP on benefits taught salsa; COURT.
A MAGISTRATE claimed PS22,500 in disability benefits while working part-time as a salsa instructor, a court was told yesterday.
Wayne Middleton, 48, also appeared on Channel Four's Coach Trip show where he was filmed abseiling down a 150ft tower, stilt walking and then grass skiing.
But the former zoo volunteer signed paperwork declaring he was incapable of work and claimed at least PS22,500 in disability living allowance and incapacity benefits from 2005.
Divorcee Middleton told North Somerset magistrates he was entitled to the cash because he has Fibromyalgia, a long-term condition causing pain all over his body.
He added: "I have to do something with my life, you just can't do nothing."
Middleton, of Stanton Drew, near Bristol, has denied two charges of dishonestly making a false statement to obtain payment.
The trial continues.
