Dirty money.

Dog owners who allowed their pets to foul public places have been fined by magistrates.

Five people who appeared before JPs in Sunderland were each fined pounds 150 and ordered to pay pounds 120 costs.

Neighbourhood patrol officers saw them allowing their dogs to foul public places. When it became clear they were not going to clear up, officers issued fixed penalty notices.

As a result of non-payment, each owner was taken to court. A council spokesman said: "It is inexcusable when owners fail to clean up."
