Director of Nursing Brings Passion for Problem Solving to The Birches.

Clarendon Hills, IL, March 09, 2016 --(PR.com)-- According to Tina Stasukewicz, the director of nursing at The Birches Assisted Living in Clarendon Hills, Ill., if she wasn't a nurse she would be an auto mechanic. While the two professions seem to have little in common, Stasukewicz says both allow her to do what she does best: solve problems.

Stasukewicz came to The Birches in August 2015 with over a decade of nursing experience and a passion for fixing what needs to be fixed, whether it be a patient's health or something more mechanical in nature.

"I like to be busy, and I like trying to fix things," said Stasukewicz. "That's why I went to nursing school. Nursing challenges me, and I love a good challenge."

After working as a patient care technician at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn for several years, Stasukewicz recognized her affinity for the health care profession and enrolled in the Nursing Program at Morton College. Not long after receiving her nursing degree, she took an R.N. position at British Home Rehabilitation Services and then gradually took on more responsibility as the minimum data set clinical coordinator, the assistant director of nursing and, eventually, the director of nursing.

At the British Home, Stasukewicz developed a love of working with older adults, something that drew her to her new role at The Birches.

"We really need to make a difference in the geriatric population. I want to make sure that everyone is being helped and properly taken care of in their later years," said Stasukewicz.

Of course, Stasukewicz's favorite activity outside of her profession is working on cars— a hobby she developed as a child while watching her dad change oil in the garage, and one that she still practices today.

"I like to work on my car, and I like to work on other people's cars," said Stasukewicz. "I guess I just like to work with my hands and challenge my mind. If something needs fixing and I get my hands on it, you better believe I'm going to try and fix it, and that includes helping patients who are struggling with a health challenge."
