Diplomatic reception marks Indonesian Independence Day.
Chief Guest, the Speaker of Sindh Assembly, Mr. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro congratulated the Indonesian Consul General on the auspicious occasion, which was enthusiastically attended by Sindh Government officials, Diplomats, Honorary Consul Generals, businessmen, politicians and representatives from civil society in Karachi.
On the occasion, the Consul General extended the Warmest Regards of the Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan and Mrs. Ishak Latuconsina participating the function.
He also extended warmest and sincerest felicitation to Government and people of Pakistan, especially to the Sindh Province, on the auspicious occasion of the 65th Independence Day of Islamic Republic of Pakistan celebrated on 14 August 2012, and Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan on 20 August 2012.
The Reception opened with the playing of the national anthems of the two countries, was followed by remarks of the Consul General and the Chief Guests, during which the Indonesian Consul General among others shortly elaborated the development, achieved by Indonesia during the last sixty-seven years, and characterized by remarkable progress and significant achievement in political, economic, social and cultural sectors.
He said that Indonesia's economy, which represented 40 percent of ASEAN's aggregate economy, was projected to grow by 6 to 6.5 percent this year, while He also cited recent reports of UNCTAD, declaring Indonesia as one of the top ten most attractive FDI destinations in 2010-2012.
He further said that Indonesia's more than 230 million population, 40 million of which were middle-class, had made steady progress at every front, under the dynamic leadership of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono,
The Consul General emphasized that Indonesia and Pakistan are brotherly countries that have been enjoying excellent and long-standing relations, which have been transformed into a multi-facet and mutually rewarding partnership encompassing all field of interests.
He also termed the current bilateral trade volume of Indonesia and Pakistan recorded at US$ 1.1billion in 2011, as still far below the real potential, reiterating the fact that both had some similarities, huge potentials, not only in economic and trade but also in socio culture: based on which fact, he strongly believed that both could be advantageous by further strengthening in their bilateral relations.
The Sindh Assembly Speaker noted with satisfaction the close relations between the two countries and hoped that the bilateral relations will further strengthened in the years ahead.
The Consul General and the Chief Guest accompanied by the Consul Generals of Malaysia, Thailand and the UAE as well as the President of the Pakistan-Indonesian Business Forum, the President of Pakistan-Indonesian Friendship society performed the cake cutting to mark the celebration.
