Restaurant will preview

dinner due James Beard

Marche restaurant is taking reservations for a Wednesday preview of the dinner that chefs Stephanie Pearl Kimmel and Rocky Maselli will prepare July 16 at the James Beard House in New York City.

There is one 6 p.m. seating for the $100-a-person preview, which includes live entertainment by the Marche staff. The price covers both the tip and the five wines that will be served.

The dinner in New York City will be part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Beard's birth. The famous chef grew up in Portland and became a noted food authority.

After Beard's death in 1985, his brownstone home at 167 W. 12th St. in the heart of Greenwich Village was converted into a culinary center where chefs perform much as musicians do at Carnegie Hall.

DWJ Television, a television production and public relations company headquartered in Ridgewood, N.J., is planning to film Marche's dinner in New York City for use as a pilot for a possible TV series on Beard House dinners and the chefs who produce them.

To that end, a producer and camera operator are scheduled to visit Eugene to shoot scenes at the restaurant and at local farms that supply Marche with ingredients.

Marche's Eugene and New York dinners will feature Oregon food products.

The dinners will start with a selection of four hors d'oeuvres, to be followed by a goat cheese timbale with heirloom tomatoes and arugula as the first course. Albacore tuna with roasted beets and sweet onions, haricots verts (green beans) will serve as the second course.

The main course is lamb chop with anchovy coating and a side dish of summer squash. Dessert will be pound cake with summer berries, rose geranium syrup and whipped cream.

For a reservation, call 342-3612. Marche is located in the Fifth Street Public Market, 296 E. Fifth Ave.
