Dilemma for elderly.

HOW sad it was to read Anna Rosario's letter of appeal (GDN, August 1) to allow her to stay in Bahrain and how many more are out there in the same situation?

The point she raised about health care cover, is very relevant and one which the authorities have to look at seriously. As she mentioned, currently no insurance company will give health cover after 65, even if you come here to buy property and invest. In some cases, cover may be given, but with an outrageous premium tag even if you are declared fit and healthy.

This is an area, which could readily become a torrid profit-making scenario aimed at elderly people. A presentable humane policy needs to be put in place by the government so that everyone can afford to have some sort of health cover as they venture into old age, particularly so, as health cover will soon become mandatory.

Does that mean that all the golden oldies have to leave, or will they be driven to despair as poor Anna is? I do hope she finds some kind soul to help her.

An ageing, worried citizen
