Diamond Multimedia Ships SupraExpress 336e Speakerphone Modem With ASVD For Macintosh Computers; Full Duplex Transmission Allows For Echo-Free, Uninterrupted Sound During Calls.

VANCOUVER, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1997--Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc., (Nasdaq: DIMD), today announced the shipment of the SupraExpress 336e Sp, a simultaneous voice and data, stand-alone speakerphone modem (including microphone, headset and speakerphones) designed exclusively for the Macintosh. Received with great enthusiasm at the San Francisco Macworld exposition, the SupraExpress 336e Sp allows Macintosh users to talk and share data at the same time over a single analog phone line. With an estimated retail price of $149 (US), the SupraExpress 336e Sp is expected to be available this month through leading retail stores and mail-order catalogues throughout North America (later in Europe). The new SupraExpress 336e Sp Macintosh modem broadens the existing Supra modem line to include a full range of external V.34 modems for Macintosh computers.

Delivering enhanced performance and additional functionally to Macintosh users, the SupraExpress 336e Sp integrates a high-speed 33,600 bps modem with a professional-quality speakerphone. Users can simply plug the included microphone, headset and speakers into the modem and dial out for echo-free uninterrupted conversation. This capability exists even when both parties are talking to each other simultaneously. In addition, Diamond Multimedia's new Macintosh modem incorporates ASVD (Analog Simultaneous Voice and Data) technology for the exchange of data while talking on the phone. Based on the V.34Q standard established by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the SupraExpress 336e Sp will interoperate with all ASVD modems compliant with this standard.

"The ability to talk to other users while downloading files or playing games makes the Supra Express 336e Sp an ideal solution for the home or small office Macintosh users," said James Cutburth, vice president of marketing for Diamond Multimedia's Communications Division. "As an added value, the SupraExpress 336e Sp offers a professional-quality speakerphone at a fraction of the cost of similar stand- alone speakerphones."

Business Professionals Can Work Together Long Distance

The SupraExpress 336e Sp with advanced Macintosh features and ASVD is designed to save business executives both time and money. While working on their Macs, individuals can use an ASVD modem to dial-up clients or associates, edit documents together and discuss changes -- all over the same phone line. With the convenience of a built-in speakerphone, users can display and edit documents on their computer screen without having to juggle a telephone receiver.

Computer Gamers Can Talk with Their Opponent

The ability for remote players to chat or strategize together adds a new level of interaction to head-to-head modem games such as Warcraft II. With the SupraExpress 336e Sp, computer game lovers will be able to verbally cheer or taunt each other in real-time during any phase of gameplay.

Value-Added Software

"Macintosh has always been known for ease of use, but with Diamond Multimedia's own Supra VoiceMail software, mastering advanced technology is simplified," said Cutburth. Supra VoiceMail software, built exclusively for Macintosh operating systems, is included free with the SupraExpress 336e Sp modem. This custom software provides advanced voice software with an easy-to-use interface, allowing users to access fax and voice messages anytime, anywhere from a touch-tone phone. Additional features included are:

-- Automatic distinction between fax and voice calls.

-- Saving of fax and voice messages on your hard drive for later retrieval.

-- Recording of your personalized greetings with a headset (included) or telephone handset.

-- Notification of incoming messages by pager, fax, or phone.

-- Set up of separate voice mailboxes for different people in your office or home.

-- Caller ID-ready to identify callers before you answer the phone (Requires Caller ID service from your local telephone company.)

-- Fax-on-demand capability.

Diamond's SupraExpress 336e Sp also ships with a CD-ROM including MicroPhone LT data communications software; VDOnet's VDOLive video browser; a trial version of Warcraft II; and a variety of Internet access software, including Internet Explorer from Microsoft and NetCom's NetComplete with Netscape Navigator; and a complete set of documentation.

Video-phone Ready

The new SupraExpress 336e Sp modem also features V.80 capability, the ITU's international standard for video phone-ready V.34 modems. V.80 is the application interface that defines how video software runs on modems.

System Requirements

The SupraExpress 336e Sp is compatible with any Macintosh computer, 68030 system 7.0 or higher.
