Diamond Edge 3D Series Powered by NVIDIA NV1 Multimedia Accelerator; Industry's first fully integrated Windows 95 multimedia accelerator chip moves into volume production.

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 1995--NVIDIA Corp. today announced that the Diamond Edge 3D, the next-generation Windows 95 multimedia accelerator board from Diamond Multimedia Systems, is powered by NVIDIA's NV1 multimedia accelerator chip.

The NV1 is a fully-integrated, single-chip solution combining real-time, photorealistic 3D graphics, 2D graphics acceleration, concurrent wave-table synthesis audio, full-motion video acceleration and special effects and a direct input gameport engine. The announcement of the Diamond Edge 3D Multimedia Accelerator board series from Diamond signifies the beginning of full volume production of the highly anticipated NV1 multimedia accelerator for PCI-based personal computers running Windows 95.

"NVIDIA's revolutionary technology, combined with the product development and market strength of Diamond Multimedia and the strength of Windows 95 as a game platform, have resulted in a truly stunning product for the end-user," said Ken Wirt, vice president of marketing for Diamond Multimedia. "The NV1 uniquely enables the Diamond Edge 3D as the first true Windows 95 accelerator capable of concurrently accelerating all the major components of interactive multimedia," he added.

"The NVIDIA NV1 is a sophisticated and fully integrated multimedia accelerator for a Windows 95 based PC," said Paul Osborne, Microsoft's director of multimedia technology. "This is why we are pleased to be working together with NVIDIA in their effort to bring the capabilities of their accelerator technology to the Microsoft Games DirectX programming interface."

NVIDIA's president and co-founder Jen-Hsun Huang said, "We are very excited to be working with Diamond Multimedia, the premier graphics and multimedia supplier in the world. The Diamond Edge 3D clearly extends their leadership role into the consumer multimedia world. For NVIDIA, creating the technology to produce a single-chip hardware accelerator of 3D and 2D graphics, video, audio and input has been a tremendous engineering undertaking, and we are pleased to be moving into volume production."

He added, "The Diamond Edge 3D will make this a very exciting Christmas for PC consumers."

NVIDIA is a privately held company based in Sunnyvale. The company's mission is to develop acceleration technology to transform the PC into the ultimate multimedia platform. The company was listed in the June 1995 issue of UPSIDE Magazine as one of the five hottest startup companies in Silicon Valley, according to industry analysts.
