Dewsbury screwdriver thug jailed.

A THUG who stabbed a 19-year-old man with a screwdriver has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.

Christopher Ioannou, 24, of Moorside Croft, Dewsbury Moor, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on July 27 for stabbing the man in the School Crescent area of Dewsbury Moor on February 15.

His victim was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

Kirklees Detective Inspector Andrew Garnett said: "Although incidents such as this are rare in West Yorkshire, it should nevertheless serve as a reminder of the consequences and heartache which will follow.

"Carrying a weapon of any sort will lead to severe penalties from the courts and it will not be tolerated within our communities."
